Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 0.5-0.9 x 1.5-3.6 µm, occuring singly or in pairs. Motile by
peritrichous flagella. Produce ellipsoidal endospores are formed in terminal position,
swelling the sporangia.
Colonies are convex, cream-coloured, 1 mm in diameter, entire margins and a glossy
surface after 24h incubation on nutrient agar at 45 ºC. Growth occurs at 20-50 ºC
(optimally at 45 ºC), at pH 5.5-8.5 (optimally at pH 7.5) and at  5-10% (w/v) NaCl.
Aerobic, no growth in anaerobic conditions.
Isolated from a biowaste composting reactor in Germany.

Positive results for alkaline phosphatase, catalase, aesculin hydrolysis (weak), beta-glucosidase and nitrate reduction.
Can utilize as sole carbon source: N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, D-glucose, cellobiose, D-fructose, D-galactose, maltose, D-ribose,
salicin, trehalose, DL-3-hydroxybutyrate, DL-lactate, pyruvate, glycerol, L-alanine and L-aspartate.

Negative results for  caseinase, gelatinase, indole production, oxidase, starch hydrolysis, urease, Voges-Proskauer test, acid
production from: adonitol, D-glucose, i-inositol, rhamnose, sorbitol, sucrose and D-xylose.
No utilization of: N-acetyl-D-galactosamine, L-arabinose, p-arbutin, gluconate, D-mannose, melibiose, L-rhamnose, sucrose,
D-xylose, adonitol, myo-inositol, maltitol, D-mannitol, D-sorbitol, putrescine, acetate, propionate, cis- and trans-aconitate, adipate, 4-
aminobutyrate, azelate, citrate, fumarate, glutarate, itaconate, L-malate, mesaconate, oxoglutarate, suberate, beta-alanine, L-histidine,
L-leucine, L-ornithine, L-phenylalanine, L-proline, L-serine, L-tryptophan, 3- and 4-hydroxybenzoate and phenylacetate.
