Gram-positive rods. Motile. Produce subterminal, oval endospores in swollen
sporangia.
Colonies are circular, light yellow, convex and opaque with irregular edges on TSA
plates after 72 h incubation. Grows at 20-45 ºC (optimum growth at 37 ºC), at pH
6.0-10.0 (optimum pH 8.0) and at NaCl concentrations of 0-2% (optimum 0%). Strictly
aerobic.
Isolated from a yellow water sample collected from the manufacturing process of strong flavor Chinese baijiu in Yibin region of
Sichuan province, China.

Positive results for alkaline phosphatase, catalase, citric acid utilization, cystine arylamidase, alpha-chymotrypsin, aesculin hydrolysis,
gelatin hydrolysis, leucine arylamidase, oxidase, valine arylamidase, acid production from: aesculin, D-tagatose and 5-ketogluconate.
Can assimilate (API 20 NE): N-acetylglucosamine (weak) and adipic acid.

Negative results for acid phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, H
2S production, indole production, egg yolk reaction, Tween 80 hydrolysis,
lysine decarboxylase, nitrate reduction, ornithine decarboxylase, trypsin, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase,
urease and Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from: glycerol, erythritol, D- and L-arabinose, adonitol, methyl beta-D-xyloside,
D-galactose, dulcitol, inositol, sorbitol, gluconate, methyl alpha-D-glucoside, arbutin, salicin, sucrose, inulin, melezitose, raffinose,
starch, glycogen, xylitol, D-gentiobiose, D-lyxose, L-fucose, D- and L-arabitol, methyl alpha-D-mannoside, 2-ketogluconate, D-ribose,
D-glucose, D-fructose, D-mannose, L-sorbose, mannitol, N-acetylglucosamine, amygdalin, cellobiose, maltose, lactose, melibiose,
trehalose, D-and L-xylose.
No assimilation of: L-arabinose, glucose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, maltose and potassium gluconate.
