Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Caryophanales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Bacillus, Alteribacter aurantiacus
(Borsodi et al. 2008) Gupta et al. 2020.
Synonym: Bacillus aurantiacus Borsodi et al. 2008.
Gram-positive, straight rods, 0.8-1.0 x 3.2-4.5 µm, occurring mainly singly or in pairs
and occasionally in short chains. Non-motile. Produce central to subterminal,
ellipsoidal endospores in unswollen sporangia.
Colonies are goldish-orange, circular, entire, smooth and convex. Grows at 10-45 ºC
(optimum 28 ºC), at pH 8-12 (optimum pH 9.5-10) and tolerates up to 15% (w/v) NaCl
(optimum 3-7% (w/v) NaCl). Obligately aerobic.
Isolated from sediment of Kelemen-szek, an extremely shallow soda lake situated in Hungary.
Resistant to penicillin, ceftazidime, cefprozil, cephadroxil, cefalexin, vancomycin, chlortetracycline and novobiocin. Sensitive to
chloramphenicol, amoxycilin, amoxyclav, streptomycin, bacitracin and gentamycin.
Undetermined.
