Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 0.3-0.4 x 1.3-4.0 µm. Produce central ellipsoidal endospores in
swelling sporangia. Motile by a single polar flagellum.
Colonies are smooth, circular to slightly irregular, slightly raised, pale orange yellow
in colour and 2-3 mm in diameter after 72 h at 30 ºC on marine and nutrient agar.
Optimal growth temperature is 30 ºC. Growth occurs at 15 and 42 ºC, but not below 15
or above 45 ºC. Optimal pH for growth is 7.0-7.5. Growth is observed at pH 5.0-12.0,
but not at pH 4.0. Growth occurs in the presence of 0-12 % (w/v) NaCl. Aerobic, does
not occur under anaerobic conditions on marine agar.

methyl alpha-D-mannoside, N-acetylglucosamine, D-raffinose, D-ribose, salicin, starch, sucrose, D-turanose and D-trehalose.
Negative results for oxidase, starch hydrolysis, urease, hypoxanthine hydrolysis, Tween 80 hydrolysis, tyrosine hydrolysis,
and xanthine hydrolysis, acid production from: D-arabinose, dulcitol, D- and L-fucose, gentiobiose, gluconate, glycogen, 2- and
5-ketogluconate, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, sorbose, D-tagatose, xylitol D- and L-xylose.
