Gram-positive, non-motile rods, 0.5-1.5 x 2.5-3.5 µm, producing subterminally or
terminally, ellipsoidal endospores in unswollen sporangia. Vacuoles are formed in
the cytoplasm of cells grown on media containing 2% glucose
Colonies are slimy or rough, usually white, occasionally pink or red, 1-3 mm in
diameter. Aerobic. Grow at pH 7 and in 2-10 % NaCl. Growth temperature 10 to 55 ºC
(28 ºC optimum). Allantoin, urate and NaCl are not required for growth.
Isolated from inner tissues of healthy cotton plants (Gossypium sp., Dushanbe, Tajikistan). Grow in the presence of lysozyme.
