Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive (Gram-variable in older cultures), rounded-ended rods, 1.2-1.9 x
3.5-4.8 µm, occur singly or in pairs. Motile by a single lateral flagellum. Central or
subterminal ellipsoidal endospores are observed in swollen sporangia.
Colonies are matt, circular to slightly irregular with fimbriate edges, slightly raised,
off-white and 2-4 mm in diameter after 2 days at 37 ºC on nutrient agar. Produce a red
pigment visible from from the centre of the colony to the edge after 4-7 days on TSA
under the same cultivation conditions. The temperature range for growth is 20-45 ºC;
optimum growth occurs at 37 ºC. The pH range for growth is pH 7.0-11.0,
with optimum growth at pH 8.5. NaCl is tolerated at 0-2% (w/v). The preferred growth
medium is nutrient agar. Aerobic.
Isolated from a typical sandy loam soil under long-term NPK fertilization at the State Experimental Station for Agro-Ecology, Fengqiu
county, Henan province, China. Susceptible to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, rifampicin, streptomycin, kanamycin, gentamicin,
tetracycline, erythromycin and polymyxin B.

Positive results for alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase (weak), alpha-chymotrypsin (weak), catalase, citrate utilization, esterase
(C4), esterase lipase (C8), alpha-glucosidase, gelatinase, leucine arylamidase, nitrate reduction, tryptophan deaminase,
Voges-Proskauer reaction, acid production from: D- and L-arabinose, erythritol, D-fructose, glycerol, D-glucose, myo-inositol, inulin,
D-mannitol, maltose, melezitose, N-acetylglucosamine, raffinose, D-ribose, sucrose, trehalose, D-xylose, methyl
beta-D-xylopyranoside. Weak acid reactions are detected for amygdalin, arbutin, L-arabitol, D- and L-fucose, D-galactose, potassium
gluconate, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, lactose, D-lyxose, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, salicin and  turanose.
