Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Caryophanales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Priestia, Priestia flexa (Priest et al.

Synonym: Bacillus flexus (ex Batchelor 1919) Priest, Goodfellow and Todd 1989.
Gram-variable, rods, 0.9 µm mean cell width, presenting centrally / paracentrally,
ellipsoidal endospores in unswollen sporangia.
Colonies are opaque and smooth. Grows at pH 4.5-9.5 and in 2-10% NaCl. Growth
temperature 17 to 37 ºC (optimum 30 ºC). Allantoin, urate or NaCl are not required for
growth. Does not grow in medium supplemented with lysozyme (0.001%). No growth
on MacConkey agar. Aerobic. No anaerobic growth.
Isolated from feces (poultry) and soil.
