Gram-positive, thin, slightly curved, round-ended, rods, 0.7-0.9 x 4.0-7.0 µm, occuring
singly or in pairs. Highly motile. Produce ellipsoidal, or spherical endospores that
appear in subterminal or terminal positions and may swell the sporangia.
Colonies are small (pin-head size, 1 mm in diameter), convex, whitish, glossy, and
have watery texture after 24 h incubation on NA at 30 ºC. Growth occurs at 4-42 ºC  
(optimally at 30 ºC), at pH 6-10 (optimally at pH 7) and in  0.5-8% (w/v) NaCl (optimally
in 1-2% NaCl). Growth in anaerobic conditions is weak. Unable to grow on
skimmed-milk agar.
Isolated from soil of the Drentse A agricultural research area in the Netherlands.

Positive results for acid and alkaline phosphatase, catalase, alpha-chymotrypsin, cystine arylamidase, aesculin hydrolysis, esterase
(C4), esterase lipase (C8), beta-glucuronidase, leucine arylamidase, nitrate reduction, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, oxidase,
Tween 20 and 60 hydrolysis, trypsin and valine arylamidase.
Can utilize (weakly) as sole carbon source: D-glucosamine, D-glucuronate and 2-keto-D-gluconate. Other Biotype 100 substrates are
not utilized.
