Description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive (Gram-variable in old cultures), nonmotile rods, 1.0-1.3 x 2.5-4.0 µm.
Produce centrally or terminally, ellipsoidal endospores in swollen sporangia.
Colonies are circular to slightly irregular, light yellow, smooth , 2-4 mm in diameter
after 3 days at 30 ºC on marine agar. Growth occurs at pH 5 to 7 (optimum pH 6-7)
and at 10-40 ºC (optimum temperature 30 ºC). Grow in nutrient broth with 2-19% NaCl
added (optimum 2-5% NaCl). Allantoin and urate are not required for growth. NaCl is
required for growth. Aerobic.
Isolated from sea water of the East Sea in Korea.

Positive results for caseinase, catalase, esculin hydrolysis, indole production, nitrate reduction, N-acetyl D-glucosamine, starch
hydrolysis. Tween 20, 40, 60 and 80 hydrolysis, acid production from: cellobiose, fructose, galactose, D-glucose, D-mannitol,
D-mannose, maltose, melibiose, raffinose, ribose, sucrose and trehalose.
Negative results for citrate utilization, oxidase, degradation of tyrosine, urease, acid production from: L-arabinose, adonitol,
meso-inositol, lactose, melezitose, rhamnose, sorbitol and D-xylose.
Variable results for gelatinase activity.
