Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Caryophanales, Family Caryophanaceae, Genus Jeotgalibacillus, Jeotgalibacillus
soli Cunha et al. 2012.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Note: Jeotbacillus soli Chen et al., 2010 is an illegitimate homonym of the validly published Jeotgalibacillus soli Cunha et al., 2012.
Gram-positive rods, 0.8 x 1.5-4 µm. Motile by one polar or subpolar flagellum.
Produce central or paracentral endospores.
Colonies on solid ABM2 medium are not pigmented. Optimal growth temperature is
30-37 ºC, but growth also occurs at 15 and 40 ºC. The optimum pH is between 8.0
and 8.5, but growth also occurs at pH 5.5 and pH 10.5. Optimum growth occurs in
medium with 0-1% NaCl (w/v), although growth is still observed in medium with 9%
NaCl. Strictly aerobic.
Isolated from soil in Portugal. Resistant to 100 U/ml lysozyme.
Undeteremined.
