Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 0.65 x 4.75 µm. Motile. Produce terminal, spherical endospores.
Colonies are 1-2.5 mm in diameter, cream, regular in shape with round edges.
Growth occurs at 40-70 ºC (optimum growth at 50-55 ºC), at pH range 6.0-10.5
(optimum pH is 7.5-8.5), can grow in the absence of NaCl (optimum growth at 2.5%
NaCl); no growth above 4% NaCl. Facultatively anaerobe.
Isolated from Kestanbol Hot Spring, Turkey. Susceptible to ampicillin, streptomycin sulphate, tetracycline, gentamicin and kanamycin.

Positive results for catalase, nitrate reduction, oxidase and starch hydrolysis.
Can utilize: D-mannitol, D-glucose, D-fructose, maltose, D-mannose, D-raffinose and D-sucrose.
Negative results for gelatinase, H2S production, indole production and urease.
No utilization of L-arabinose, lactose, L-rhamnose and D-xylose.
