Species description is based on a single strain.
Gram-positive rods, 06-0.8 x 3.0-46.0 µm, motile by peritrichous flagella. Produce
terminal, ellipsoidal endospores in swollen sporangia.
Colonies are circular and yellowish. Grows at 20-45 ºC (optimum at 37 ºC), at pH
8-10(optimum pH 9). Can grow at 3% (w/v) NaCl concentration, but not at 5%.
Isolated from soil, Japan.

Positive results for catalase, caseinase, gelatinase, mannan hydrolysis, starch hydrolysis, Tweens 40 and 60 hydrolysis, acid
production from: D-fructose, glucose, glycerol, inulin, D-lactose, D-maltose, mannose, sorbitol, sucrose, starch and D-trehalose.
Negative results for indole production, H2S production, nitrate reduction, oxidase, acid production from: L-arabinose, arbutin,
cellobiose, L-fucose, inositol, D-melezitose, D-melibiose, D-rhamnose, D-ribose, salicin and xylitol.
Variable results for acid production from: D-galactose, D-mannitol, raffinose and D-xylose.
