Description is based upon two isolates.
Weakly Gram-positive, motile rods (peritrichous flagella), 0.5-1.0 x 5.0-7.0 µm. Cells
stain slightly Gram-positive in the exponential growth phase and Gram-negative in the
stationary phase. Produce subterminal, ellipsoidal endospores in sometime slightly
swollen sporangia.

Colonies are convex, smooth, yellowish. Aerobic. Alkaliphilic. Growth temperature
30-60 ºC (optimum 50 ºC); pH 6-11 (optimum pH 10.5). Grow in 0-10% NaCl. Alantoin
or urate are not required for growth.
