Synonym:
Bacillus polygoni  Aino et al. 2008. Description of a single isolate.
Gram positive, straight rods, 0.4-0.5 x 1.0-3.5 µm. Produce central, ellipsoidal
endospores in unswollen sporangia. Nonmotile.
Colonies are  white, circular when grown on PYA medium. Moderately halophilic and  
obligately alkaliphilic. Grow at pH 8-12 (optimum pH 9), in 3-14% NaCl media
(optimum 7%) and at 13-47 ºC (optimum 30 ºC). NaCl is required for growth. Aerobic;
no anaerobic growth.
Isolated from indigo balls (fermentation of Polygonum tinctorium / Persicaria tinctoria), Ibaraki, Japan.
