Synonym: Bacillus qingshengii Xi et al. 2014.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 2 x 10 µm. Non-motile. Produce ellipsoidal endospores.
Colonies are circular and white pigmented with a colony diameter of 5 mm after growth
on LB agar at 30 ºC for 2 days. Growth occurs at 4-45 ºC (optimal 30 ºC), at pH 4.0-8.0
(optimum pH 7.0) and in 0-10% (w/v) NaCl (optimum 0-1% NaCl). Not resistant to UV
radiation. Can weather tuff and release Fe, Si and Al from tuff. Aerobic.
Isolated from weathered rock (tuff) surface collected from Dongxiang (Jiangxi, eastern China).
Sensitive to rifampicin and gentamicin. Resistant to amoxicillin, streptomycin, tetracycline, kanamycin, chloramphenicol and
spectinomycin .

gentiobiose, inositol, inulin, lactose, maltose, D-mannitol, melibiose, raffinose, D-ribose, salicin, D-sorbitol, sucrose, starch,
trehalose, turanose and D-xylose.
Can utilize (API 20 NE): D-glucose, L-arabinose, L-mannitol, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, maltose, potassium gluconate, malate and
sodium citrate.
Negative results for caseinase, cystine arylamidase, indole production, lipase (C14), leucine arylamidase, nitrate reduction,
N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, alpha-mannosidase, Tween 20 and 80 hydrolysis, trypsin, valine arylamidase, Voges-Proskauer
test, xylan hydrolysis, acid production from: D-arabinose, dulcitol, D-fucose, D-galactose, melezitose and methyl
alpha-D-glucopyranoside.
