Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Caryophanales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Bacillus, Bacillus salis Seck et al. 2023.

Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 1.8 x 5.9 µm. Motile by a single polar flagellum. Produce
subterminal, ellipsoidal endospores.
Colonies after 48h of incubation at 37 ºC are creamy, smooth, circular and slightly
irregular, measuring 5-8 mm in diameter. Growth occurs optimally at 37 ºC, pH 7.5
and at 10% NaCl. Aerobic.
Isolated from commercial table salt.
Susceptible to imipenem, doxycycline, rifampicin, vancomycin, amoxicillin, ceftriaxone, gentamicin, trimethoprim/ sulfamethoxazole,
erythromycin, ciprofloxacin nitrofurantoin, ampicillin, penicillin and gentamicin. Resistant to metronidazole.

beta-glucosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, lipase (C14), leucine arylamidase, alpha-mannosidase, oxidase, trypsin,
alpha-chymotrypsin, valine arylamidase, acid production from: N-acetyl-glucosamine, D-adonitol, D- and L-arabinose, D- and
L-arabitol, D-cellobiose, dulcitol, erythritol, D- and L-fucose, D-galactose, glycerol, glycogen, gentiobiose, gluconate, potassium 2-
and 5-ketogluconate, inositol, inulin, D-lactose, D-lyxose, D-mannitol, methyl-alpha-D-mannopyranoside,
methyl-alpha-D-glucopyranoside, methyl-beta-D-xylopyranoside, L-rhamnose, D-ribose, L-sorbose, D-sorbitol, D-tagatose,
D-turanose, xylitol, D- and L-xylose.
No assimilation of: L-arabinose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, N-acetylglucosamine, D-maltose, potassium gluconate, capric acid, adipic
acid, malic acid, trisodium citrate and phenylacetic acid.
