Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Caryophanales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Anoxybacillus, Anoxybacillus
thermarum Poli et al. 2011.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 0.3-0.5 x 3.0-3.5 µm. Motile. Produce ellipsoidal to cylindrical,
terminal endospores.
Colonies are usually yellow, smooth, and circular. Growth occurs in enrichment
medium A (peptone Oxoid 0.8%, yeast extract Oxoid 0.4% and NaCl 0.2%). Grows at
55-67 ºC, (optimal growth at 65 ºC), at pH 6.0-7.5 (optimum pH 7.2). No growth in 3%
NaCl. Aerobe.
Isolated from thermal mud located in Euganean hot springs, Abano Terme, Padova, Italy.
Sensitive to lysozyme, neomycin, erythromycin, penicillin G, chloramphenicol, kanamycin, ampicillin, gentamicin, novobiocin,
bacitracin, lincomycin, fusidic acid, streptomycin and tetracycline.
Undetermined.

bacterium isolated from thermal mud in Euganean hot springs, Abano Terme, Italy. Extremophiles 2009; 13:867-874.
Positive results for catalase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, hippurate hydrolysis and tyrosine decomposition.
Can utilize as sole carbon source: maltose, trehalose and sodium acetate.
Negative results for caseinase, gelatinase, indole production, nitrate reduction, oxidase, phenylalanine deaminase, starch hydrolysis
and Tween 60 hydrolysis.
