Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative rods. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on solid pyruvate-yeast extract media (PYE) are circular with entire margins,
off-white color.  Growth on R2A agar occurs at  4-37 ºC (optimum growth temperature
is 25 ºC), at pH 3.5-7.0 (optimum pH 6.5) and in the presence of 0–2.5% (w/v) NaCl.  
Carbon monoxide is oxidized aerobically.
Isolated from volcanic soils from Pico de Orizaba (Mexico).

Positive results for acid phosphatase, catalase, cystine arylamidase, esterase (C4), esterase (C8), alpha- and beta-galactosidase,
nitrate reduction, oxidase and glucose fermentation.
Can utilize: alanine, D-arabinose, arbutin, D-arabitol, fructose (weak), D-galactose, glucose, glutamate, glycerol (weak), glycogen,
beta-hydroxybutyrate, 5-ketogluconate, lactate, lactose, malate (weak), proline (weak), pyruvate, ribose, salicin, trehalose, tartrate and
L-xylose.

Negative results for esculin hydrolysis, alpha-glucosidase, gelatin hydrolysis,  N-Acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, trypsin and
alpha-chymotrypsin.
No  utilization of: D-adonitol, amygdalin, acetate, aspartate, adipate, L-arabitol, benzoate, betaine, caprate, citrate, cellobiose, dulcitol,  
dimethylamine, erythritol, formate,  D- and L-fucose, D-gentiobiose, gluconate, glucuronate, glycine, inositol, inulin,
alpha-ketoglutarate, isopropanol, 2-ketogluconate, lactose, D-lyxose, malonate, maltose, melezitose, melibiose, methanol,
methylamine, N-acetylglucosamine, phenylacetate, phenylalanine, phthalate, propionate, raffinose, L-rhamnose, succinate,
beta-D-xylopyranoside, L-sorbose, sorbitol, starch, sucrose, D-tagatose, turanose, trimethylamine, valine, xylitol and D-xylose.

Variable results for arginine dihydrolase and assimilation of L-arabinose, mannitol and mannose.
