Gram-negative cells, 0.3-0.4 x 0.9-1.5 μm. Non-sporulating. Motile by peritrichous
flagella.
Colonies are cream-coloured. Carotenoid pigment is not produced. Aerobic.
Optimum growth with oxalate is at pH 6.6 at 25 ºC. In liquid culture, doubling time with
oxalate is 4.5 h. Unable to grow autotrophically with hydrogen.
Isolated from the alimentary tract of an Indian earthworm.. Susceptible to colistin.

Positive results for catalase, nitrate reduction to nitrite, oxidase and urease.
Can assimilate phenol, ethanol, ethylene glycol, lactate and formate.

Negative results for casein hydrolysis, starch hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis, H
2S production and indole production.
No assimilation of glucose, tartrate and aconitate.
