Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Betaproteobacteria, Order Burkholderiales, Family Burkholderiaceae, Genus
Pandoraea, Pandoraea norimbergensis (Wittke et al. 1998) Coenye et al. 2000.
Old synonym: Burkholderia norimbergensis Wittke et al. 1998.
Gram-negative rods, 0.5-0.7 / 1.5-4.0 μm, arranged individually or in irregular clusters.
Motile by means of a single polar flagellum. Non-spore-forming.
Growth is observed at 30 and 37 ºC, but not at 42 ºC Can grow on Drigalsky agar and
in 0.5 or 1.5% NaCl. No growth in 4.0% NaCl, 6.0% NaCl, 10% lactose or on
acetamide. Can grow on cetrimide agar. Fluorescence on King’s B medium is not
produced. Strict aerobe. The first described strain oxidizes reduced sulfur compounds.
Isolated from the environment (oxic water layer above a sulfide containing sediment) and human clinical samples.
Undetermined.
