Paraburkholderia oxyphila
Description is based mostly on API 50CH, API ZYM and API 20NE results.

Positive results for  acid and alkaline phosphatase, catalase, esterase, esterase lipase, leucine arylamidase, naphthol-AS-BI-
phosphohydrolase and urease.
Can assimilate glucose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, n-capric acid, adipic acid, DL-malate, sodium citrate,
phenylacetate, fructose, sorbose, sorbitol, D-arabitol, gluconate, 2-ketogluconate, propionate (weak), L-histidine and itaconate.

Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, chymotrypsin, cystine arylamidase, esculin hydrolysis, alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and
beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, gelatin hydrolysis, indole production, C14 lipase,
alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, oxidase,  trypsin, valine arylamidase and acid production from
glucose.
No assimilation of DL-arabinose, maltose, glycerol, erythritol, ribose, DL-xylose, adonitol, methyl beta-D-xyloside, galactose,
rhamnose, dulcitol, myo-inositol, methyl alpha-D-mannoside, methyl alpha-D-glucoside, amygdalin, arbutin, esculin, salicin,
cellobiose, lactose, melibiose, sucrose, trehalose, inulin, melezitose, raffinose, starch, glycogen (positive in Kang's paper), xylitol,
gentiobiose, turanose, D-lyxose, D-tagatose, DL-fucose, L-arabitol, 5-ketogluconate, acetate, malonate and n-valerate.

Catabolizes (+)-catechin into taxifolin (also other aromatic derivatives).

Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative rods, 0.8-0.9 x 1.5-2.0 μm. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are smooth, butter-like and yellowish-white when grown on LB medium.
Growth occurs at 15-40 ºC (optimum 30 ºC) in LB broth.  No growth at temperatures
above 42 ºC or below 15 ºC. Grows in pH 3.5-8.0. No growth on MacConkey agar.
Aerobic and anaerobic.
Isolated from acidic forest soil from Japan.
Undetermined.
