Basonym:
Polynucleobacter necessarius Hahn et al. 2009. Four strains currently classified as Polynucleobacter necessarius subsp.
asymbioticus
were reclassified as Polynucleobacter asymbioticus comb. nov., Polynucleobacter duraquae sp. nov.,
Polynucleobacter yangtzensis sp. nov. and Polynucleobacter sinensis sp. nov.
Gram-negative short rods, 0.3-0.5 x 0.5-1.5 μm. Non-motile.
Grows on NSY, nutrient broth, peptone, soytone, yeast extract, tryptic soy and R2A
media. Colonies on NSY agar are non-pigmented, circular and convex with smooth
surface. Growth occurs at 5-35 ºC and in 0-0.3% (w/v) NaCl. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from alkaline Lake Mondsee.
