Accommodates strains previously known as the
Ralstonia pickettii biovar 3/‘thomasii’
strains and at least some of the strains known as “
Pseudomonas thomasii” Phillips et
al. 1972.
Gram-negative rods. Motile by means of single polar flagellum, excepting the type
strain. Non-spore-forming.
Beige colony pigmentation. Growth occurs at 30, 37 and 42 ºC. Aerobic.
Isolated from human clinical specimens (blood, sputum), industrial water. Resistant to desferrioxamine, O:129 and colistin.
Undetermined. The type strain was isolated from blood of patient at St. Thomas’ Hospital, London.

Positive results for  acid and alkaline phosphatase, catalase, C4 esterase, C8 esterase-lipase, C14 lipase, leucine
arylamidase,oxidase, pyrrolidonyl aminopeptidase, phenylalanine deaminase, phosphoamidase, urease, Tween 80 hydrolysis, acid
production (oxidatively) from glucose, L-arabinose, lactose, maltose, mannitol, D-arabitol and D-xylose.
Can utilize acetate, beta-alanine, L-alanine, L-arabinose, D-arabitol, 4-aminobutyrate, azelate, succinate, fumarate, butyrate, formate,
mucate, galacturonate, histidine, lactate, N-acetylglucosamine,  4- and 3-hydroxybutyrate, caprate, citrate, fructose, galactose,
glucose, gluconate, 2-ketogluconate, glycerol, malate, malonate, mannitol, L-proline, propionate, serine, suberate and D-xylose.

Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, esculin hydrolysis, alpha-fucosidase, gelatin hydrolysis, alpha- and beta-galactosidase,
beta-glucuronidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, H
2S production, indole production, lysine
decarboxylase, alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction, ornithine decarboxylase, starch hydrolysis, trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, valine
arylamidase and cystine arylamidase.
No assimilation of acetamide, adipate, alginate, allantoin, amygdalin, L-arginine, D-arabinose, benzoate, dulcitol, i-erythritol,
L-ornithine, maleate, tartrate, L-fucose, glycogen, inositol, inulin, itaconate, 5-ketogluconate, mannose, maltose, melibiose,
phenylacetate, rhamnose, ribose, sucrose, salicin, D-sorbitol, trehalose and 3-hydroxybenzoate.
