Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative coccoid cells,1-2 µm in diameter. Flagellated.
Colonies on TYS agar incubated at 15 ºC for 3–5 days are circular (1-2 mm in
diameter), white and convex with smooth surfaces. Cells grow at 0–30 ºC (optimum at
10–15 C), at pH 5.5-8 (optimum at 7.5) and with 0.5-5 % NaCl (w/v, optimum with 2-3
%). Growth at 0 ºC is only observed after 7-8 days incubation in TYS broth. Aerobic,
growth under microaerobic conditions is not observed. Can grow on MacConkey
agar and Nutrient Agar supplemented with 0.05 % safranin,  0.01% sodium
deoxycholate or 0.04% 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC), but do not grow on
Campylobacter charcoal deoxycholate agar (CCDA) and Nutrient Agar supplemented
with glycine.
Isolated from Antarctic intertidal sediment.
Resistant to nalidixic acid (30 µg), vancomycin, penicillin G, ampicillin, novobiocin and chloramphenicol. Susceptible to colistin E,
gentamicin, polymyxin B, cephalexin, erythromycin, erythromycin and tetracycline.

Positive results for acid phosphatase, arginine hydrolysis, catalase,  cystine arylamidase, esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8),
leucine arylamidase, nitrate reduction, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, oxidase, trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, valine arylamidase
and acid production from glucose.
Can utilize D- and L-alanine, D-glucose, L-arabinose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, N-acetylglucosamine, maltose, gluconate, capric
acid, adipic acid, malic acid, citrate and phenylacetic acid.

Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, caseinase, chitinase, elastase, alpha-fucosidase, gelatinase, alpha- and
beta-glucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, hippurate hydrolysis,  indole
production,  lipase (C14), alpha-mannosidase, starch hydrolysis, Tweens 20, 40, 60 and 80 hydrolysis, L-tyrosinase and urease.
No utilization of: L-lysine, malic acid and D-mannose.
