Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Epsilonproteobacteria, Order Campylobacterales, Family Campylobacteraceae,
Genus Campylobacter, Campylobacter lanienae Logan et al. 2000.
Gram-negative, slightly spiral rods with rounded ends,1.2-2.4 μm long. Motile by a
single bipolar flagellum.
Colonies are smooth, entire, and translucent and alpha-hemolytic causing some
greening of blood agar. After 3 days of microaerobic incubation at 37 °C, colonies on
agar are 0.5 mm in diameter. Microaerophilic, but grows weakly under anaerobic
conditions. Grows at 37 and 42 ºC, but not at 25 ºC. No growth in the presence of 2%
NaCl, 2% ox bile, 0.02% safranin, KMnO4 and 1% glycine. Grows on mCCDA. Variable
growth on 0.04% TTC.
Isolated from the faeces of healthy individuals during a hygiene survey of abattoir workers in Switzerland.
Resistant to nalidixic acid and cephalothin.

Positive results for catalase, nitrate reduction, selenite reduction, oxidase and TTC reduction.
