Genus Campylobacter, Campylobacter magnus Gruntar et al. 2023.
Gram-negative, spiral rods, 0.5 x 1.5-3 μm. Motile by means of a pair of unsheathed
flagella at both cell ends.Coccoid forms appear in older cultures. Non-spore-forming.
Growth is observed on blood agar, chocolate agar, mCCDA, CASA or Skirrow agar in
microaerophilic conditions at 37 and 42 ºC, but not at 25 ºC. No growth on media
supplemented with 1.5% NaCl or 1% glycine. Can grow on 0.04% TTC. No
alpha-haemolytic activity.
Isolated from caecal contents of a domestic pig. Resistant to cephalothin (30 µg) and to nalidixic acid (30 µg).
Undetermined.

Positive results for catalase, esterase, nitrate reduction, oxidase and selenite reduction.
Negative results for hippurate hydrolysis, H2S production on TSI, pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, L-arginine arylamidase, L-aspartate
arylamidase, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, triphenyltetrazolium chloride and urease.
Variable results for alkaline phosphatase.
