Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Epsilonproteobacteria, Order Campylobacterales, Family Arcobacteraceae, Genus
Arcobacter, Arcobacter marinus Kim et al. 2010. Description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative, slightly curved rods, approximately 0.5-1.7 x 0.1-0.3 μm. Motile by
means of a polar flagellum.
Colonies are circular, convex, creamy white and approximately 1 mm in diameter after
3 days incubation on Marine agar plates at 37 ºC. Colonies are irregular, umbonate,
grey and approximately 4 mm in diameter after 3 days incubation on Saline Blood
agar plates at 37 ºC. Nonhemolytic.
Growth occurs at 10-40 ºC (optimum 30-37 ºC) and at pH 5.9-8.5 (optimum pH 7.0).
Growth occurs at NaCl concentrations of 1-9% (w/v) (optimum 3-5 %) and in media
containing 1% glycine and 0.05% safranin. No growth in 1% oxgall media.
Variable growth on MacConkey agar.
Isolated from seawater with seaweeds and a starfish added, in the East Sea, Korea.
