Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative, slightly curved rods, 0.3-0.6 x 1.0-3.0 µm. Motile by a single polar
flagellum. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies after 48h incubation at 28 ºC on TSA are translucent to opaque smooth-
rounded, convex, non-swarming and about 2mm in diameter. Growth is observed
under aerobic and microaerobic conditions at temperatures between 18–37 ºC, and
weakly under anaerobic conditions at room temperature (18-22 ºC). No growth is at
42 ºC, while at 37 ºC apparently stronger growth is observed when under
microaerophilic incubation as compared to aerobic incubation. Does not require
hydrogen for growth. Does not grow on blood agar media containing ≥2.0% NaCl,
1.0% glycine or 0.04% TTC.
Isolated from the rectal mucus of the intestinal tract of a healthy pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) collected immediately post mortem
veterinary inspection at a Belgian abattoir.
Sensitive to nalidixic acid (30 µg) and cephalothin (30 µg).
Undetermined.
