Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Clostridia, Order Eubacteriales, Family Lachnospiraceae, Genus Cellulosilyticum,
Cellulosilyticum ruminicola Cai and Dong 2010.
Cells are Gram-negative-staining but have a Gram-positive cell-wall structure; 0.8–1.0
x 3.0–4.0 µm, occurring singly. Nonmotile. Slime is produced. Elliptical and terminal
spores are produced occasionally.
Colonies are yellow-green, circular and slightly convex, 1.0-2.0 mm in diameter.
Obligate anaerobic. Optimum temperature for growth is 38 ºC. Grow at 25-45 ºC.
Optimum pH 6.7; range 6.0-7.8.
Fermentation products from cellulose and cellobiose are formic acid, acetic acid,
carbon dioxide and trace amounts of ethanol, succinic acid and lactic acid.
Isolated from the rumen of yak.

& xylose.
Negative results for catalase, aesculin hydrolysis, indole production, gelatin hydrolysis, nitrates reduction, urease, Voges-Proskauer
reaction, utilization of: arabinose, amygdalin, erythritol, fructose, galactose, glucose, glycogen, glycerol, inositol, mannitol, mannose,
melezitose, melibiose, raffinose, rhamnose, ribose, salicin, starch, sucrose & trehalose.
