Musicola, Musicola paradisiaca (Fernandez-Borrero and Lopez-Duque 1970) Hugouvieux-Cotte-Pattat et al. 2021, type species of the
genus.
Old synonyms: Erwinia paradisiaca Fernandez - Borrero and Lopez-Duque 1970, Brenneria paradisiaca (Fernandez-Borrero and
Lopez-Duque 1970) Hauben et al. 1999, Dickeya paradisiaca (Fernandez-Borrero and Lopez-Duque 1970) Samson et al. 2005.
Gram-negative rods, 0.5-1.0 x 1.0-3.0 µm with rounded ends. Usually motile by
means of peritrichous flagella. Occur alone, in pairs, sometimes in chains.
Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are S-type, pale cream-coloured, 0.5-2.5 mm in diameter with translucent
appearance. Optimum growth temperature is 33 ºC. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from soft rot and wilt of plane tree, banana (Musa paradisiaca) and Zea mays.
Causes vascular wilts or soft rots on a range of host plants.

Positive results for nitrates reduction, indole production, catalase, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from amygdalin, arabinose,
glucose, melibiose, rhamnose, sucrose. Pectinolytic.
Can utilize: D- and L-arabinose, N-acetyld-glucosamine, D-fructose, D-galactose, D-galacturonic acid, D-gluconic acid, D-glucose,
D-glucuronic acid, glycerol, D-mannose, melibiose, raffinose, D-ribose, sucrose, D-xylose, arbutin, salicin, citric acid, lactic acid,
