Synonym: "Duffyella gerundensis" (Rezzonico et al. 2016) Soutar and Stavrinides 2022.
Gram-negative, small straight rods, 0.5-1.3 x 1.0-3 μm, occuring mostly alone, but
may produce symplasmata. Usually motile. Non-encapsulated. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies grown on nutrient agar (NA) are yellow-pigmented, circular and firmly
adhering to the agar, low convex and smooth with entire margins. Does not produce
levans on sucrose agar, but secretes abundant fluid mucoid exopolysaccharides.
Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from leaves of pear (Pyrus communis) in Spain.

Positive results for catalase, nitrate reduction, acid production from L-arabinose, arbutin, D-fructose, D-galactose, D-glucose, glycerol,
gluconate, 2-ketogluconate, inositol, lactose, mannose, D-mannitol, maltose, melibiose, N-acetylglucosamine, raffinose, L-rhamnose,
D-ribose, sucrose, trehalose, and D-xylose.
Negative results for H2S production, indole production, lysine decarboxylase, ornithine decarboxylase, oxidase, urease,
Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from erythritol, D-arabinose, D-adonitol, D- and L-arabitol, amygdalin, dulcitol, D- and L-fucose,
glycogen, gentiobiose, inulin, 5-ketogluconate, D-lyxose, melezitose, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, methyl
alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside, L-sorbose, D-tagatose, turanose, L-xylose, and xylitol. The utilization of
the other carbon sources is variable.
