Kalamiella piersonii Singh et al. 2019, type species of the genus.
Gram-negative, short rods, 1-1.2 x 2.8 µm, occurring singly or in pairs. Motile.
Colonies are circular, convex, approximately 0.6-1.0 mm in diameter, and beige after
24 h of incubation on TSA medium at 30 ºC. Growth occurs at 12 and 37 ºC (optimally
at 30 ºC), at pH 6.0-10.0 (optimally at pH 8.0), and in 0-5% NaCl. No growth at 4 or 44
ºC, Aerobic.
Isolated from the International Space Station Port panel of the Cupola (the observation deck for the crew) and from patient with kidney
stone disease.
Involved in struvite crystallization.
