Gram-positive rods, 0.5 / 4.0 µm, occurring as chains of plump coccobacilli.
Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on MRS agar are translucent, cream, smooth and convex. Colonies are
formed on MRS agar and sheep blood agar under aerobic and anaerobic conditions
in 48 h at 37 ºC. Grows at temperature range 25-40 ºC and 2.0-4.0% NaCl media.
Facultative anaerobe.
Isolated from faeces of apparently healthy wild Canada geese (Branta canadensis), USA.
Undetermined.
Description is based on API 50 CHL, VITEK, Biolog, and conventional tests results.
Positive results for fermentation/utilization of butyrate, D-fructose, glucose (without gas production), gluconate, glycerol, mannose,
melibiose, N-acetylglucosamine, and turanose.
Negative results for beta-galactosidase, gelatinase, indole production, urease, Voges-Proskauer test, fermentation/utilization of acetic
acid, D-adonitol, amygdalin, D- and L-arabinose, D- and L-arabitol, cellobiose, dulcitol, esculin, formic acid, L- and D-fucose,
galactose, gentiobiose, glycogen, inositol, inosine, inulin, lactose, mannitol, melezitose, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, raffinose,
rhamnose, ribose, salicin, sorbitol, sucrose, trehalose, xylitol, D- and L-xylose.
Variable results for maltose fermentation.
