Gram-positive short or long and slender rods, occurring singly, in pairs or in short
chains. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are beige and circular, with either smooth or fringed edges after 48 h of
incubation on MRS agar. Growth temperature is 4-37 ºC; no growth at 40 ºC. Can
grow at pH 4.0-7.8. No growth in 4% NaCl. Facultative anaerobe.
Isolated from a spoiled beer tank sample from a German brewery.

Positive results for fermentation of L-arabinose (weak reaction), D-fructose, galactose, glucose (with gas production), gluconate (with
gas production), maltose, mannitol (weak reaction), melibiose (weak reaction), methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside (weak reaction),
ribose (weak reaction), D-xylose, and N-acetylglucosamine.
Negative results for arginine deamination, catalase, oxidase, fermentation of adonitol, amygdalin, arbutin, D-arabinose, D- and
L-arabitol, cellobiose, dulcitol, erythritol, esculin, L- and D-fucose, gentiobiose, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, glycerol, glycogen, inositol,
inulin, lactose, D-lyxose, mannose, melezitose, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-xyloside, raffinose, rhamnose,
salicin, sorbitol, L-sorbose, starch, sucrose, D-tagatose, trehalose, turanose, xylitol, L-xylose, and methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside.
