Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Lactobacillales, Family Lactobacillaceae, Genus Lactobacillus,
Secundilactobacillus folii Phuengjayaem, Nuhwa, Phongsopitanun and Tanasupawat 2021.
Gram-positive rods, 0.5-0.6 x 1.2-4.1 µm. Nonspore-forming. Nonmotile.
Colonies are cream and convex. Facultatively anaerobic. Grows at 15-42 ºC, optimally
at 30 ºC. Grows at pH 3.5-8, optimally at pH 6.0. Grows in 1-4.0% NaCl media.
Isolated from fermented tea (Camellia sinensis var. assamica) leaves, Thailand.

Species description is based mainly on API 50 CHL and API ZYM results.
Positive results for cystine arylamidase (weak), esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8) (weak), beta-glucosidase (weak),
beta-galactosidase (weak), beta-glucuronidase, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, valine arylamidase, fermentation of: L-arabinose,
D-fucose, D-fructose, galactose, glucose (acid and gas production), maltose, melibiose (weak), N-acetylglucosamine (weak), ribose,
and D-xylose.
Negative results for acid and alkaline phosphatase, arginine hydrolysis, casein hydrolysis, catalase, alpha-chymotrypsin,
alpha-fucosidase, alpha-galactosidase, alpha-glucosidase, gelatin hydrolysis, leucine arylamidase, lipase (C14),
alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, oxidase, starch hydrolysis, trypsin, Voges-Proskauer test,
fermentation of: adonitol, amygdalin, arbutin, D-arabinose, D- and L-arabitol, cellobiose, dulcitol, erythritol, esculin, L- fucose,
gentiobiose, gluconate, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, glycerol, glycogen, inositol, inulin, lactose, D-lyxose, mannitol, mannose, melezitose,
