Gram-positive short rods, 0.8 x 1.6 µm.
Colonies are white with a shiny surface, small after 48 h of incubation on MRS agar at
30 ºC under aerobic conditions. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from leaves of a strawberry plant growing in Portugal.
The typical phenotypic characteristics, such as catalase activity and utilization of L-arabinose and sucrose, could play a role in the
adaptation of this species to the phyllosphere.

Facultatively heterofermentative.
Description is based on API 50 CHL results (48 h incubation at 30 ºC).
Positive results for catalase, fermentation of L-arabinose, cellobiose, esculin, D-fructose, galactose, glucose (acid without gas
production), gluconate, mannose, N-acetylglucosamine, ribose, salicin, sucrose, and trehalose.
Negative results for fermentation of adonitol, amygdalin, arbutin, D-arabinose, D- and L-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol, D- and L-fucose,
gentiobiose, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, glycerol, glycogen, inositol, inulin, lactose, D-lyxose, maltose, mannitol, melezitose, melibiose,
methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl alpha, D-xyloside, raffinose, rhamnose, sorbitol,
L-sorbose, starch, D-tagatose, turanose, methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside, xylitol, D- and L-xylose.
