Gram-positive rods, 0.6-0.8 x 2.5-3.5 µm. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
colonies are cream, convex, smooth and 1.2 mm in diameter after 2 days at 37 ºC on
MRS agar. Can grow at 10-50 ºC, optimally at 37 ºC. Can grow in 2-8% NaCl. Grows
at pH 3.0-9.0. Non-haemolytic. Facultative anaerobic.
Isolated from grass silage and corn silage, Croatia.

beta-galactosidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, leucine arylamidase, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, Voges-Proskauer test,
valine arylamidase, fermentation of: adonitol, amygdalin, arbutin, D-arabinose, L-arabitol, cellobiose, dulcitol, L- fucose, D-fructose,
galactose, gentiobiose, glucose acid (without gas), gluconate acid, N-acetylglucosamine, inositol, lactose, mannitol, mannose,
melezitose, rhamnose, ribose, salicin, sorbitol, D-tagatose, trehalose and turanose.
Negative results for alpha-fucosidase, beta-glucuronidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, H2S production, indole production, lipase
(C14), alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction, trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, urease, fermentation of: L-arabinose, D- arabitol, erythritol,
