Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cocci, 0.7-1.0 µm in diameter, occuring singly, in pairs and tetrads.
Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are greyish white, opaque, smooth and circular with a convex elevation and
an entire margin. Able to grow at pH values of 4-8 and at temperaturesup to 40 ºC.
Grows on MRS agar at 37 ºC. The maximum NaCl concentration for growth is 6%
(w/v).
Isolated from Argentinean wheat flour.

Homofermentative.
Positive results for esculin hydrolysis, acid production from amygdalin, arbutin, cellobiose, esculin, fructose, glucose, gentiobiose,
galactose, maltose, mannitol, mannose, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, N-acetylglucosamine, ribose,salicin, sucrose, and
tagatose.
Negative results for acid production from D- and L-arabinose, D- and L-arabitol,adonitol, dulcitol, erythritol, D- and L-fucose, glycerol,
glycogen, potassium gluconate, potassium 2 and 5-ketogluconate, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, inositol, inulin, rhamnose,
lactose, lyxose, melezitose, melibiose, raffinose, sorbose, sorbitol, trehalose, turanose, methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside, xylitol, D- and
L-xylose.
