Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cocci, 0.5-0.7 µm in diameter, occuring singly, in pairs and tetrads.
Non-motile.
Colonies are circular, white, low convex with entire margin, less than 0.5 mm in
diameter, and not pigmented. Growth occurs at 15-45 ºC, optimally at 30 ºC. Grows at
pH 8.0 and 8.5, not at pH 3.5. Grows in 4% NaCl, not in 6% or 8% NaCl.
Isolated from fermented tea leaves (miang) produced in the northern part of Thailand.
Undetermined.

Homofermentative.

Positive results for esculin hydrolysis, acid production from D-amygdalin, cellobiose, esculin, D-fructose, D-galactose, glucose
(without gas production), lactose, D-mannose, salicin, and trehalose.

Negative results for arginine hydrolysis, catalase, nitrate reduction, acid production from L-arabinose, gluconate, maltose,
D-mannitol, melezitose, alpha-methyl-D-glucoside, raffinose, rhamnose, D-ribose, sorbitol, sucrose, and D-xylose.
