Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 1.0 x 1.5-3.0 µm, occurring singly, in pairs or in short chains.
Nonmotile. Asporogenous.
After anaerobic growth at 37 ºC for 72 h, colonies on MRS agar are circular to slightly
irregular, 1.5-2.0 mm in diameter and beige with a smooth surface. After aerobic
growth at 37 ºC for 72 h on blood agar, alpha-haemolysis is observed. Facultatively
anaerobic. Can grow at 10 ºC, but not at 45 ºC. Range of pH 4.0-8.5. Can grow in 5%
NaCl, but not in 8% NaCl.
Isolated from faeces of a healthy Japanese adult male in Tokyo, Japan.

D- or L-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol, fucose, 5-ketogluconate, glycogen, inositol, inulin, lactose, D-lyxose, rhamnose, sorbose, turanose,
xylitol, D- or L-xylose.
