Gram-positive rods, 0.89-1.2 x 1.18-3.48 µm, occurring singly, in pairs and in short
chains. Motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are white, smooth, 1.0-1.25 mm in diameter after 4 days of incubation at 28  
ºC on MRS agar. Optimum growth temperature is 28 ºC. Can grow at pH 4.5-8.0, and
in 5% NaCl (not at pH 3.3 or in10% NaCl). Aerotolerant.
Isolated from Spanish Bobal grape must, Spain.

Description is based mainly on API 50 CHL results.

Positive results for esculin hydrolysis, fermentation of amygdalin, arbutin, D-fructose, gentiobiose, glucose (without gas production),
maltose, mannitol, mannose, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, salicin, sucrose, trehalose, turanose, and N-acetylglucosamine.

Negative results for arginine deamination, catalase, fermentation of adonitol, D- and L-arabinose, D- and L-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol,
esculin, D- and L-fucose, galactose, gluconate, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, glycerol, glycogen, inositol, inulin, lactose, D-lyxose,
melezitose, melibiose, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside,methyl alpha-D-xyloside, raffinose, rhamnose, ribose, sorbitol, starch,
D-tagatose, xylitol,D- and L-xylose, methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside.

Variable results for the fermentation of cellobiose and L-sorbose.
