Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive coccobacilli 0.42-0.48 x 0.87-1.04 µm. Non-motile.
Colonies on BHI agar plates after 2 days of incubation at 30 ºC under anaerobic
conditions are 1-3 mm in diameter, cream-coloured, circular, entire, smooth and
opaque. Grows at 20-30 ºC, with 0.5 % (w/v) NaCl and at pH 6.0-8.0, but not at 40 ºC
and pH 5.0, grows weakly with 1% (w/v) NaCl. Anaerobic; no growth under aerobic
conditions.
Isolated from the gut of the wood-feeding lower termite Hodotermopsis sjostedti.

Positive results for alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase (weak), chymotrypsin (weak), esterase lipase (weak),
alpha-galactosidase (weak), beta-galactosidase, beta-glucosidase, leucine-arylamidase, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase (weak),
acid production from (API 50 CHL): amygdalin, arbutin, aesculin ferric citrate, cellobiose, D-fructose, D-glucose, gentiobiose,
D-mannose, N-acetyl glucosamine, salicin, trehalose and D-xylose.

Negative results for catalase, CMC hydrolysis, esterase, alpha-glucosidase, pectin hydrolysis, valine arylamidase, xylan hydrolysis,
acid production from: D-galactose, glycogen,  inulin, lactose, maltose, D-mannitol, melibiose, melezitose, methyl
alpha-D-glucopyranoside, raffinose, D-ribose, D-sorbitol, starch, sucrose, D-tagatose and turanose.
