insecticola Hilgarth et al. 2020.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive coccobacilli 0.42-0.50 x 0.65-1.03 µm. Non-motile.
Colonies on BHI agar plates after 2 days of incubation at 30 ºC under anaerobic
conditions are 1-3 mm in diameter, cream-coloured, circular, entire, smooth and
opaque. Grows at 10-30 ºC, with 0.5-2% (w/v) NaCl and at pH 6.0-8.0, but not at 40 ºC,
pH 5.0, and 3% (w/v) NaCl. Anaerobic; no growth under aerobic conditions.
Isolated from the gut of the wood-feeding lower termite Hodotermopsis sjostedti.
Undetermined.

The main metabolic end product is L-lactic acid.
Positive results for acid phosphatase (weak), alpha- and beta-glucosidase, leucine-arylamidase, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase
(weak), acid production from: maltose (weak) and D-mannose (weak).
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, chymotrypsin, esterase lipase, catalase, CMC hydrolysis, alpha- and beta-galactosidase,
esterase, pectin hydrolysis, valine arylamidase, xylan hydrolysis, acid production from: amygdalin, arbutin, cellobiose, D-fructose,
D-galactose, D-glucose, glycogen, gentiobiose, inulin, D-mannitol, melibiose, melezitose, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, N-acetyl
glucosamine, raffinose, D-ribose, salicin, D-sorbitol, sucrose, starch, trehalose, turanose, D-tagatose and D-xylose.
