Gram-positive short rods and cocci, 0.8-1.0 µm, occurring in pairs or clusters.
Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on Nutrient Agar after 48 h are below 1 mm in diameter, light yellow, round
with entire margins, of low convexity, opaque and smooth. Optimal temperature for
growth is 22-30 ºC. No growth or weak growth at 37 or 10 ºC. No growth at 45 or 4 ºC.
Growth on medium with 15% NaCl; optimal growth at 10% NaCl. Growts at pH 7-10;
optimum at pH 8-9. Aerobic.
Isolated from a rosy biofilm overgrowing a mural painting in the Saint-Catherine chapel (castle of Herberstein, Austria).

Positive results for alkaline phosphatase, catalase, esterase lipase C8 (weak), beta-glucuronidase, alpha-galactosidase (weak),
beta-galactosidase, alpha-glucosidase, gelatinase, leucine arylamidase, phosphoamidase (weak), pyrazinamidase, and trypsin.

Negative results for cystine arylamidase, chymotrypsin, alpha-fucosidase, N-acetyl-bglucosaminidase, lipase C14,  oxidase,
pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, urease, valine arylamidase, fermentation of glycogen, mannitol, lactose, ribose, and xylose.

Variable results for nitrate reduction, aesculin (beta-glucosidase), fermentation of glucose, maltose and sucrose.
