Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cells showing a rod-coccus cycle with irregular rods and coccoid cells
about 1.0 µm in diameter. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on peptone yeast extract medium are round, smooth, convex, 0.2-1 mm in
diameter and red-pigmented. Pigment is soluble in methanol, not in water. Growth
occurs at 5-30 ºC (optimally at 26 ºC) , at pH 6 and 12 (optimally at pH 7.0), and in the
presence of up to 5.8% (w/v) NaCl. Strictly aerobic.
Isolated from a cyanobacterial mat sample from Antarctica.
Sensitive to penicillin, chlortetracycline, chloramphenicol, oxytetracycline, tetracycline, erythromycin, nitrofurantoin, bacitracin, nystatin,
nitrofurazone, leucomycin, rifampicin, cotrimoxazole, trimethoprim, ampicillin, carbenicillin, gentamicin, amoxycillin, tobramycin and
polymyxin B. Resistant to furazolidone, colistin, furoxone and kanamycin.

Positive results for catalase, gelatinase, nitrate reduction, and phosphatase.
Can utilize as sole carbon source mannose, galactose, maltose, fructose, glucose, arabinose, ribose, xylose, rhamnose, raffinose,
trehalose, succinic acid, fumaric acid, citric acid, mannitol, sorbitol, adonitol, sucrose, inulin, pyruvate, acetate, alanine, leucine,
isoleucine, valine, serine, arginine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, asparagine, glutamine, proline and phenylalanine.

Negative results for  arginine dihydrolase, esculin hydrolysis beta-galactosidase, indole production, lipase, methyl red test, oxidase,
starch hydrolysis, urease, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from arabinose, fructose, glucose, galactose, lactose, mannose,
maltose, rhamnose, sucrose, and xylose.
No utilization of dulcitol, inositol, melibiose, lactose, nicotine, cellulose, glycine, threonine, cysteine, methionine, lysine, tyrosine,
histidine and tryptophan.
