Gram-positive rods, 0.7-1.1 x 1.3-1.7 µm. Non-motile. Rod-coccus life cycle is not
present.
Colonies on TSA incubated at 30 ºC for 48 h are 2 mm in diameter, white, shiny and
entire-edged. Growth occurs at 4 ºC but not at 37 ºC, optimum temperature is 20 ºC.
Tolerates maximum 10% NaCl. Growth at pH 6.0-8.0, optimum at pH 7.0. Aerobic.
Isolated from raw cow’s milk with high bacterial counts from the bulk tank of a dairy farm in Germany.

Positive results for acid phosphatase, catalase, esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), leucine arylamidase,
naphtol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase and alpha-mannosidase. Proteolytic and lipolytic activity is detected on skim milk and tributyrin agar
at 4, 10 and 30 ºC.
Assimilate D-glucose and D-fructose.

Negative results for alpha- and beta-glucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase (esculin), oxidase, trypsin, and valine arylamidase.
No assimilation of cellobiose and maltose.

Variable results for the assimilation of N-acetylglucosamine, methyl-alpha-D-glucopyranoside, glycerol, maltose, D-mannose,
melibiose, D-ribose, and trehalose.
