Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cocci, 1.0-1.5 μm. Endospores are not formed. Nonmotile.
Nonencapsulated.
Colonies are pale yellow, circular, smooth and opaque after 2 days incubation on
Marine agar (MA) at 30 ºC. Cells grow at 25-37 ºC, at pH 7-9 and in the presence of
0-4% NaCl. Optimal growth conditions on MA or in MB medium are 30-37 ºC, pH 8-9
and 0-2% NaCl. Aerobic.
Isolated from jeotgal, a traditional Korean fermented seafood.

acid, putrescine, glycerol, adenosine, 2'-deoxyadenosine, inosine, thymidine, uridine, thymidine 5'-monophosphate and
DL-alpha-glycerol phosphate.
Negative results for acid and alkaline phosphatase, esterase (C4), alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase,
beta-glucuronidase, beta-glucosidase, gelatinase, PNPG hydrolysis, alpha-mannosidase, cystine arylamidase, trypsin,
alpha-chymotrypsin, indole production, oxidase, valine arylamidase and acid production from glucose.
