Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cocci,  0.5-0.8 µm in diameter. Some cells are oval in the very early
growth phase. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are smooth, circular, slightly convex or raised, glistening and 1.0-2.0 mm in
diameter after 5 days cultivation at 30 ºC on marine agar. Colonies on marine agar
are vivid yellow in colour at 30 ºC, but orange-yellow in colour at 25 ºC. Colonies on
solid PYGV medium are light yellow in colour at 25 and 30 ºC. Optimal growth
temperature is 25-30 ºC; growth occurs at 4 and 36 ºC, but not at 37 ºC. Optimal pH
for growth is 7.5-8.5; growth occurs at pH 6.0, but not at pH 5.5. Optimal growth occurs
in the presence of 2–5% (w/v) NaCl; growth occurs in the presence of 0-16% NaCl
(w/v). Aerobic.
Isolated from jeotgal, a traditional Korean fermented seafood.
Susceptible to penicillin G, chloramphenicol, ampicillin, cephalothin, novobiocin and carbenicillin. Resistant to polymyxin B,
gentamicin, kanamycin or neomycin.

arylamidase, methyl red test,  tyrosine hydrolysis, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from L-arabinose, D-cellobiose,
D-galactose, D-glucose, maltose, D-mannose, mannitol, D-melezitose, D-ribose,trehalose (weak), sucrose, and D-xylose.
Can utilize D-galactose, L-arabinose, acetate, D-cellobiose, citrate, D-glucose, D-fructose, D-mannose (weak), maltose, sucrose,
succinate, L-malate, pyruvate, D-trehalose, and xylose.

Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, acid phosphatase, casein  hydrolysis, esculin hydrolysis, alpha-fucosidase, gelatin
hydrolysis, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucosidase, beta-glucuronidase, hypoxanthine hydrolysis, H
2S production, indole
production, lipase (C14), lysine decarboxylase, alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase,
N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, oxidase, ornithine decarboxylase, starch hydrolysis, tryptophan deaminase, Tweens 20, 40 and 60
hydrolysis, trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, urease, valine arylamidase, xanthine hydrolysis, acid production  from D-fructose, lactose,
melibiose, D-raffinose, L-rhamnose, myo-inositol and D-sorbitol.
No utilization of benzoate, salicin, formate and L-glutamate.
