Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, showing a rod-coccus cycle. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Psychrotolerant; growth occurs at 4-30 ºC, with optimum at 22 ºC. Grows in the
presence of 6% (w/v) NaCl and pH 7. Aerobic. Colonies are yellow-pigmented. The
yellow pigment is insoluble in water but soluble in methanol.
Isolated from a penguin rookery soil sample collected in Antarctica, near the Indian station Dakshin Gangotri.
Resistant to nalidixic acid and nitrofurantoin. Susceptible to amikacin, ampicillin, cefoperazone, cefuroxime, ciprofloxacin,
co-trimoxazole, erythromycin, chloramphenicol, kanamycin, lincomycin, lomefloxacin, norfloxacin, penicillin, roxithromycin,
streptomycin, tetracycline, tobramycin and vancomycin.

Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, esculin hydrolysis, indole production, beta-galactosidase, lysine decarboxylase, methyl red
test, nitrate reduction, starch hydrolysis, Tween 80 hydrolysis, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from D-arabinose, D-glucose,
lactose, D-mannitol, D-rhamnose, D-ribose, sucrose, and D-xylose.
No utilization of glycerol, D-mannitol, D-rhamnose, trehalose, L-alanine, L-glutamic acid, L-histidine, L-leucine, and tryptophan.
