Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cells showing a rod-coccus cycle. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on nutrient agar are round, convex, glossy, with entire margins and have a
yellow, non-fluorescent pigment. Good growth at 1-25 ºC (facultative psychrophile). No
growth occurs at pH 5 or 11. Can tolerate 1-3% (w/v) NaCl. Aerobic.
Isolated from an alpine ice cave in Werfen, Austria.
Susceptible to ampicillin (8 µg/ml), cotrimoxazole (sulfamethoxazole+trimethoprim, 16 µg/ml), mezlocillin (16 µg/ml), cefamandole (16
µg/ml), cefotaxime (16 µg/ml), tetracycline (4 µg/ml), amikazin (16 µg/ml), imipenem (16 µg/ml). Resistant to aztreonam (32 µg/ml),
ceftazidime (16 µg/ml), ciprofloxazin and norfloxazin (8 µg/ml)

Positive results for catalase, esterase (C4), esterase-lipase (C8), hydrolysis of skimmed milk at 10 and 25 ºC, alpha-glucosidase,
leucine arylamidase, nitrate reduction, pyrazinamidase, and urease.
Can assimilate citrate, gluconate, maltose, malate mannitol, and phenylacetate.
Degrades up to 10 mM phenol as the sole carbon source.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, alkaline phosphatase, cystine arylamidase, alpha-fucosidase, gelatin hydrolysis,
alpha-galactosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, indole production; H2S production from thiosulfate, oxidase, beta-lactamase,
lipase (C14), pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, pectate lyase, fermentation of glucose, glycogen, lactose,
mannitol, maltose, ribose, sucrose and xylose,
No assimilation of adipate, arabinose, caprate, glucose, mannose, and N-acetylglucosamine.
